So i wanna figure out the gender of my baby quail at a young age, because i want to hand raise 2 females to see if i could train them (with simple commands like come) because usually when i pick one to raise, it ends up being a male and then turns mean when its about 4 weeks old. (No matter how much i hold and bond with them!) Ive noticed with my quail i dont hold that much, even the females are way tamer, so im thinking they would be easier to tame and train. I saw this wing sexing thing but it says its for chickens. Does it also work for quail?

As far as I know, you can't wing sex quail. Do you have the quail chicks or are you yet to hatch them? Are you talking about japanese quail? If so, I was able to feather sex most of my wildtypes and italians at around one week old. That's not always the case though.

You can't use wing sexing for chickens unless they are specifically bred for it and definitely not for quail. I think it's a fast feathering breed rooster over a slow feathering breed hen or something similar.

I know what you mean about the male quail. They can be sweet babies but they don't seem to want to physically interact with you when they grow up. They appreciate you bringing them treats, but it's hands off thanks.

No i dont mean like the color of their wings, i used a picture where like for females their wings go long short long short and males are all the same length.

I vent sexed my Bobwhite quail chicks at 2 days old with 100% accuracy. It's very dangerous as they have such tiny rears, but I have experience doing it with ducklings. There is no other way to accurately sex quail chicks as far as I know.

I knew you weren't talking about colour. As JaeG already mentioned, wing sexing has been specifically bred in some chicken breeds. The colour thing I mentioned was just another alternative to sexing young quail. Sorry if I confused you.
