At what point should we have the wings clipped on our Amerecaunas? We have neighbors on all three sides and really don't want to impose our chickens on them. Do we do it ourselves?

Clip them as soon as the first chicken escapes

If they molt and grow new flight feathers, it only means that you will have to cut them more often until they stop growing. I had to do my Leghorn's twice before they quit growing, escapee little things they are!! My current pullets are about 5 months old and have never been clipped - I suppose they don't escape because the older birds don't (can't) lead them astray.

We only clip flyers. Of our 30 chickens, only 3 or 4 get clipped. The rest can't clear the fence. Once they are fully feathers and can fly, we clip one wing (no need to clip both in chickens).

NOT TRUE.

I clipped one wing first, on each leghorn - as recommended on BYC. They still escaped and roosted over 7ft high in trees.

I clipped both. Now they can't get enough "lift" under them to get higher than about 3ft.

Sometimes clipping both wings is better
