I found the BEST way to beat the winter blues - for my birds:celebrate

you will be entertained, too.

:cdDIRT. potting soil, just buy a bag of plain old potting soil, and dump it in an unused box or basket. The chickens are so curious, they will be jumping in there within the hour! My two birds actually take turns, the hen was first to bathe, then Roo decided it must be safe. They have been in & out of that dirt for two days now, and they act so happy.

Good idea. I think I'll try that. We've had so much snow, there's hardly a spot anywhere for them to play. I just need to find the right box.

Another idea: if you have a houseplant that bit the dust you can dump the dirt/soil from that into the run!

We don't give our girls potting soil, but they free range, and they found the flowerpots on our front porch. They're convinced I put them out there just for them!

Ours like to play in the wood shavings in our shop. Sometimes when we process a whole lot of wood there will be a huge pile, and I dump in in their run. You have to be really careful not to fall in one of the many holes when you're working though
