I'm wondering if I should put a heat source in my silkies coop this winter I've read they do pretty well in the cold like other feathered chickens but I have a frizzle in the mix and I read that they may need a heat source to be safe and comfortable this is my first year with these little guys so interested in your all's advice oh I'm from Montana so we get ass chilling cold here lol

Might be good to add something like "winter heat for frizzles" to your thread title.
You'll get more targeted responses.

I'm from Montana
Here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

I know lots of people don't add heat, but you guys get -40 temps sometimes, plus wind chill, don't you? If they were mine, I'd either add something like a Sweeter Heater or make sure they were in a VERY sheltered, cozy spot.
Yeah we put they're insulated buildings 10 on the outside all wood through the inside installation in between the two and then my son and I are putting insulation in the inside plus hay straw all that stuff

I'm in Montana too. Gnarly winters last year, huh?

My frizzle did okay so long as she had access somewhere dry, nondrafty and preferably with other birds she could squeeze inbetween.
Yeah it's very well insulated plus there's 10 on the outside so there's not a whole lot of draft plus there's particular building is up off the ground also we have hay and straw in there eight other silkies besides her

You do still need ventilation. At least one square foot per bird.

I do this. Since I have sweeter heaters for brooding already, they get repurposed for winter supplimental heat.
