Dear Backyarders: My first post in a while: Our chickens are now of an age (8 months) where they should start laying. They are well fed and sheltered. I installed a light in their coop four nights ago to give them the extra four hours they need to lay, but there are still no eggs. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to start laying when the light is extended or will they wait until the warmer weather to lay for the first time?
