im in central pa, so not too harsh winters, barely gets down to 0. This will be my first winter with ducks. Anything extra I should do with them? This past winter I had no heated water systems, I just went out there 3x a day to refill water. I keep them in a large enclosed area with wind protection.I would open the door in the day if they wanted out and close it at night.

My runners do great in the winter as long as I hall enough water for them I break and re water 2 times a day. Rubber buckets help they break ice easier. Same for my geese. On really cold night the geese will crate Ice sculptures in there water. But I do water inside all winter. I found some bins from Home Depo that are very large stackible bins that I pace there water buckets in. It catches allot of the dribble. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Stackable-Storage-Bin-in-Black-232387/300170479

I was thinking about trying the ice-free tire trick with the water tubs this coming freeze, otherwise I'll probably run an extension cord out for my drinker heater.
