I have some quail on wire and I get build up on the wire. I think the wire is to small it is 1/2 x 1/2 and sometimes stuff does not fall through. My question is what do you recommend cleaning the wire with that will not hurt the quail on the wire and also what about cleaning the ground under the wire? I have read about putting salt on the ground, is it just regular salt you throw out?

Pressure wash the wire. Keep a tub or 2 under there at all times to collect the waste.:)

I bought one of those brushes you use to clean grills and it works pretty well. A diluted vinegar solution is good for dissolving the poop and is safe for the birds--spray the wire and let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub with the grill brush.

Thanks for the response. How long did you let them dry before putting birds back in?
What ratio did mix for your vinegar water solution?

I usually do about half and half plain white vinegar and water. Once I spray it on I'll let it sit anywhere from 5-20 minutes depending on how much poop buildup there is--I really just sort of eyeball it. After letting it sit I scrub off the poop and rinse everything off with the hose. Really stubborn buildup may require a second application of vinegar solution and elbow grease. This is just the method that works for me, I am sure there are a million other ways to do it out there!

Thanks, I don't have a lot of build up but I do want to clean them every so often. At least once a month if not every other week. I figured it would help with diseases to try and keep things clean.
