Wire coop bottom?

[my first peepers]

I will probably be getting a few more chicks and I'm looking for a place to house after brooder, until they're big enough to join the big girls. A friend has an old rabbit hutch that I could use but the floor is a hard wire (small squares). I would need to fortify it a little and probably put a plywood floor on the inside but would the wire be okay for them to run around on in the outside part?

I think that wire is too hard on chickens feet. I'd put wood down over all the wire (that's what I did in my rabbit hutch for my broody and her baby) and then use it.
