Wire Floor

Can you raise turkeys on wire floor or would it be too bad on their feet and legs?

I would not want to. The heritage breeds would probably manage O.K., but I would not recommend it.

Alot of people raise poults on wire but for bigger birds the space needed and the need to heavy duty wire/extra supports would make it very costly

I have 1 month old poults on wire and they are doing fine. They were being raised by their mamas, but started going through my hog wire fence into the neighbor's yard, where there are lots of dogs that would like to eat them, so I put them in a pen. No problems with the wire so far.

When I was a kid [long ago] we raised 300 turkeys everyyear as a cash crop. They were raised totally on elevated wire floors.
