Wire for flooring?

Can I make the floor of the coup out of some kind of wire so that the poop will fall through? Or will they stay mostly out of the coup during the day? Currently using an old rabbit cage. I'll post pictures soon.

I built my first coop with hardware cloth 1/2" as a floor. I thought the poop would fall through so cleaning would be a snap. It does't fall through. The wire mesh makes it a nightmare to clean. Any sort of scoop, rake, shovel, or trowel just gets caught in the wire. The poop catches in the wire.

Someone posted 1" x 1" wire as a floor, but it seems to me that the large mesh would be hard on the chickens' feet.

I have come to believe that a solid floor set so that you can sweep it out the door is probably the best choice.
