I am. I am a teacher and work during summers.

Given the tight economy, farm or construction work might not be handy this summer. I will be adding birds for food and egg money. I am just checking to see if others will also be doing this?

Yes! And I no longer name my hens, in case we have to eat them.

same hear, will just have to build more coops. i will be hatching on the 21st of the next 3 months and have chicks in the brooder now

I will be starting my flock this spring. I had decided on 10-12 hens but now I will be adding 13- 14 hens and a roo JUST in case I want or need to add more chickens for meat or eggs..Dixie

I'll hatch out between 30 to 60 chicks February and March then hatch more in May. My flock may reach 200 by summer, then I will sell back to 120 or so for winter.

I have a small flock of 11 girls and a roo. Definetly adding to it. Some hatching now and making plans for more eggs in a couple weeks to put in the bator.

We joined the chicken revolution because we want to have fresh organic eggs and be more self sufficient too. In light of the economy and all the things you can do with eggs, we hope it works for us. We do not have a big farm or anything. We are residential. codes allow chickens.

Hoping to let them eat in the yard to defray some feeding costs and sell some eggs.
