withdraw symptoms from quitting smoking??

My husband and I both just recently quit smoking. It's been 37 days since we had our last smoke. Both of us took Chantix. I quit after 3 weeks and started taking WELBUTRIN. My husband takes both( he smoked more and had been smoking longer ). It has been a strange experience. I never realized how much my life revolved around smoking. I smoked when I woke up, before I went to bed, commercial breaks in TV, before I ate, after I ate, on the way to work, before I went in to work, before a med pass. In a nut shell I smoked before, in the middle of and after I did anything! I am having to learn how to do EVERYTHING without smoking. And the urge can hit you at the most randon moments. I'm glad we quit. It's ridiculous to let something like that rule your life. I guess the chantix helped with some of the withdrawel sx. I would recommend Chantix and Welbutrin to anyone wanting to quit.

I tend to agree with Imp on mjsdhs's DH having a *bug*. I smoked 3-packs a day for 35 years and have been smoke free for 3 years...I really don't remember a FEVER or LOSS OF APPETITE when I quit (gained 30 pounds so I think I can safely say I haven't suffered from loss of appetite

) . I guess they could be symptoms but they seem kind of odd to me.

Irritability, restlessness, and lack of concentration were all symptoms, though. I'm wondering that if he does have a bug that he's actually feeling too lousy to show these signs (though either quitting or a fever could cause a lack of concentration).

The fever, to me, seems to be a notable symptom of an infection.

mjsdhs, I commend your husband on quitting and applaud him. I would say "If I can quit...anybody can quit!"...but I won't because quitting a nicotine addiciton is different for everyone and one of the most difficult things for a person to do. The severity of addicition (to anything) is measured by how quick withdrawal symptoms appear....nicotine has as high of an addiction rating as any other drug, it's bad. I wonder how many times I heard a non-smoker say "You ought to just quit those things!"...they just don't know how badly we do want to quit!!!

Best wishes to you and your DH!!!

Ditto here on nicotine replacement therapy....my wife and I quit at the same time...used prayer and Commit losenges.

On a side note....something a smoker will find out when he/she quits is that smokers STINK!!! Yelp, they STINK!!!

I stunk for 35 years!!!! I lead our adult bible study on Sunday nights at the church we attend and after I had been quit for a while and realized (from being around folks still smoking) how bad cigarette smoke smelled....well, I apologized to them all for smelling like that for so long.

The sense of smell improves, too. I was three rooms away from the kitchen the other night and smelled coffee. I walked into the kitchen and asked my wife if she was making coffee...she said had set up the coffee maker for the next morning...about ten minutes ago!! The coffee aroma had gently floated along for 10 minutes before I smelled it!

One thing quitting smoking hasn't helped, though, is my hearing...just the other night my wife asked if I "had a picture of Handel on my recliner". Naturally(?) I answered this strange question with "Well, do you have a picture of Handel on your recliner???". She started laughing so hard I thought I'd have to call 911. You see, I had been having a little trouble with the side-lever on my recliner getting loose and she had actually asked "...have you fixed your handle on your recliner". Ah well, you had to be there I guess.
