My Grandmother (Russian thru and thru) always said that the long skinny eggs were guaranteed to hatch roos and the rounder fatter eggs were pullets!! I dont have the capacity for hatching my own eggs, but I was wondering if any of you hatchers have heard of this or, even better, have tested it? Thanks for any input.

Yes, and if you do a search in the forum you'll find a few threads about it...lol A few have "tested" a couple are playing around with the wives tale now. A thread started just in the last week or two as a matter of fact. Supposedly pointy eggs are roos and rounded ones are hens. Is there any truth to it? Most will say no and if you think about it if there was an easy way to sex chicks prior to incubation or to be able to tell which eggs would yield hens, we'd (especially the hatcheries) would be using it. Any experienced hatcher/breeder/raiser will tell you egg shape for the most part varies by hen, not by individual egg.
