Chirping
Hi everyone. I’m a new chicken tender from northwest Alabama. Our neighbor’s parents came down from Chicago and brought a couple chickens and ducks like they always do. This time they brought a black one down for me because last time they were here, I mentioned wanting black chickens some day. Cue me rushing to get a coop and run set up because I had no idea I was getting her. (And I may have picked up another 4 chicks at the store
2 Midnight Majesty & 2 unknown).
I was wondering what breed Hela is. She’s black with hints of greenish-purple in the sunlight. Her legs are black. They said she was 3-4 months old when they gave her to me 3 weeks ago. I figured I’d have a couple months before she started laying. However, she laid her first egg about a week ago and has been laying daily ever since.
I took these today as she was enjoying a dust bath.
These were taken before they gave her to me, but the only ones I have showing her legs. They only feed the chickens cracked corn. She’s now on layer feed (with grit and calcium available) and honestly looks so much better. Sorry, these were taken through the run bars.
Here’s her first egg! They were smaller all week, but today’s was quite a bit larger.
I can get more photos tomorrow, if needed.
