Can a male make sure more than 1 females eggs are fertilized. Cause I plan on incubating a lot of the eggs and letting some of the eggs be hatched by the males. Let me know cause I'd rather have more eggs laid if possible thank you

You're better off with a one to one ratio.. OR more males than females .. the female will mate with one male and lay eggs for him.. once he starts setting the nest she will move on to another mate if one is available that she likes...
I know of a local farmer that has two males per female.. he said that keeping the males apart is the trickiest part once the females start laying and choosing mates... he has had at least one female that has mated with three males in a season...

nope.. they won't mate for life.. or even for the season.. Dorian and Rose are mated.. but Dorian has tried to stray at least once so far this year... He hasn't started setting the nest yet.. so he's keeping his options open until he does!

Hello I was curious if anyone could tell me how many females and males I should get if I'm getting 10 emus what number of males should I get and what number of females should I get if I plan on hatching a lot of the eggs

just out of curiosity, why would someone with no experience with emus want to start with 10 emus? In addition to the many acres of securely fenced in space that would be needed, you are talking about 800-900 pounds of feed a month for 10 adults. That is quite an investment.

I have to agree on that one not to be disrespectful at all or anything its just im a beginner and I am going to start out with 2 chicks (if both hatch) and I have the amount of space for them and I couldn't IMAGINE getting 10 of them!! lol! I mean I know I have 40 plus poultry as of now (turkeys chickens ducks geese guineas) and I am spending ALOT of money every month just keeping them fed and happy and im going to have to double that just for the 2 that im getting! and that would be a lot of feed for 10 of them! but I don't know anything about you so im Shure you have done research about them and are willing to take them on so I wish you the BEST of luck and I would love to know how things work out with them all!

I was more using the number ten so I could get a better ratio for male to females. I didn't realize 1:1 was a good ratio and that it would be that easy. But thanks for all the concern

It just depends on demand...
Here in Texas:.. very young chicks sell for anywhere between $75 and 125... You can't give away adults... people just don't want them.. haven't seen any adults at the Exotic Auction for quite some time.. lol.. i think too many people got burned when the bottom dropped out of the market since Texas was one of the biggest producing states back in the 90's...
Now back in the 90's it was a different story.... people here made millions on them... but those days are long gone..maybe someday they will be back.. lol.. hopefully..

Also I've read various postings about emus not being able to eat or be around pine trees... What's the deal for that and are they able to be around cedar because I have a lot if those and what plants or trees do they love to eat that can be planted inside the pen that are beneficial ect... When do you stop turning the emu eggs. I've read day 49 48 and some say 5 days before hatch any info would be great. Also what wild plants do emus like that I could put inside their pens

I always stop when the eggs have sounded, usually around day 47-48.
As far as wild plants go you'd prob. be safe just to check out which ones grow in your area that are not poisonous....mine seem to love the ones that grow on the outside of their fence more than the ones that grow on the inside , grass is greener on the other side stuff, lol.
