Wood ashes for coop dust bath

I read somewhere that some of you use wood ashes for hens to dust themselves. Since the ground is covered with snow I have made a corner of their coop for them to dust with. They love it but it is very dusty inside the coop. I'm thinking this can't be good for their lungs Or MINE. My outside run is not covered. any thoughts?

To keep the dust out of the coop you could have them dust in a dog house, of make a leanto and have them dust under that.
