I was wondering if ficus wood chip ore ok for coops. I am interested in composting also.

I personally do straw in my coop. It's easier to clean up and great for the deep litter method... not to mention it's a great carbon material for compost to even out the high nitrogen chicken manure

Welcome!

With our climate, I opted for a slatted timber floor in the coop for added ventilation and because they spend very little time in there, just sleeping and laying of eggs which the freeloaders are not doing at the moment!

Anyways, I popped ‘wood chips’ into the BYC search options and there are a number of threads on the subject which, if you do the same, you might find helpful. Same with ‘composting’.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Actually in my coop, I had a section of both straw and the
far side was wood chips.

It was Chickens Choice.

It all went to the pile and got tilled into the garden in the fall.
