For some reason the water has been emptying itself into the wood shavings....is there any way to stop this? we just have one of those screw on plastic jars with the pan that goes underneath. the guy at the store told us that this one was better for wood shavings as they wouldn't get in so much. we don't put that much in, just a thin layer to cover the ground they are on and make it more comfortable and all that good stuff
I have to change the litter twice a day because it is soaked. is this normal?

I'm not sure what's going on, but is the waterer level? If not, it will drain out. If it's too low the chicks will get shavings in the "pan". I like to set them up on a brick, or something to elevate it, but you must make sure it's level.

It only takes one or two wood shavings hanging over the edge of a waterer to wick all the water out into the rest of the shavings. I put two bricks in there with the waterer sitting on those, makes it harder to get shavings kicked into the water so it stays cleaner and stays IN the waterer.

I also had one with a hairline crack in the plastic that leaked. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on, because the crack was very hard to see.

thanks for the info, the waterer is not level. i didn't think that was a problem till now
and i will definitely prop it up more. thanks
