Wormer in chickens

Which are the best product to use in chicken food for Dewormed and you can still eat their eggs.

Not all wormers work on every kind of worm.
And most have some withdrawal period for eggs.

Are you wanting to worm prophylactically, or are you seeing them?

Best way to find out is a fecal float at a local vet (sometimes even one who doesn’t see chickens)

Most wormers that really work will require a 14 day egg withdrawal from the last dose. Some ignore that, but eggs should not be sold or given away. Flubenvet, available in the UK can be put into feed for a week at a certain ratio.

I prefer the sheep and cattle wormer Valbazen, but many use SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer, and both treat most chicken worms. Each is given orally to each chicken. Valbazen 0.08 ml per pound is given once and again in 10 days. safeGuard is given 0.25 ml per pound once and again in 10 days for many worms. For hard to kill worms such as gapeworm or capillary worm, give it 5 days in a row. Wazine 17 can go in the water for 24 hours, and it only kills roundworm, the most common worm.

Pyrantel Pamoate is used to treat roundworms in humans. The same for animals. It can be mixed in food for a single animal such as a dog. Dosage for a 10lb dog is 5ml mixed in its food.
For one 5lb chicken the dosage is 2.5ml orally. There arnt any withdrawal periods that I know of.
The problem with putting wormers in feed or water is that you dont know if all your birds ate or drank enough of the treated food or water to be effective. Also, wormy sick birds wont eat or drink. The same is true for birds with respiratory diseases when it comes to antibiotics.

The best wormers are your benzimidazoles such as albendazole and fenbendazole. Once administered orally to a chicken, these wormers pass through their system quickly and are mostly excreted.
We eat eggs after worming. However if a person suspects they might have an allergic reaction to a wormer due to residue in eggs, it would be best to discard eggs for a couple of weeks.

DE will not rid worms so be sure to use a "real" worm medicine.
