I noticed worms in one of my 6 week old chick's poop, so naturally I came to byc to look up wormers!

I read a thread about Valbazen, and was wondering, Is it safe to use on my chicks? Thanks!

Yes, it's safe. Dose them orally 1/4cc. Repeat again in 10 days.

Hey dawg53: Isn't 1/4ml the dose for standard adult birds rather than chicks? I read somewhere on BYC that the chick dosage was 1/10ml. Thoughts?

1/2cc is for standard size, 1/4cc is for smaller birds.

Sorry for hijacking this thread and now asking so many questions but I want to get this right and you seem to be very knowledgeable. My chicks are all standard breeds and range in age from 6 weeks up to 4 months. When you say that 1/4 ml is for smaller birds, by "smaller" do you mean as young as 6 weeks old?

Any idea how big the safety margin is on the Valbazen?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe that's what he means - Valbazen is safe, I've used it in rotation...with different age groups and haven't had any problems. I try to get an accurate dosage, but I'm not exactly precise - nobody's died yet! Except the worms
