I just got 8 adorable girls (although I suspect one of my cochins is a cockerel in drag). I was wondering when I should worm them and what do I use to worm the girls? I have a plethora of knowledge with cats and dogs, just not my peepers. I wan t my girls to be strong and healthy! They are about 4 weeks old.

it's best to worm your birds on a regular bases . I don't follow my chickens all day to inspect their droppings for worms but when they are in touch with the ground it's a given that they are exposed to worms , therefore worming is essential !! google the companies that sell wormers and pick out the best ("Randall Burkey" is one of the best )

I would recomend Safeguard , Wormazole(liquid or capsules) , Williams Wormer and Valbazen(in that order) .

I would not worm them until they are full grown at least (6 months or more), unless you see something, or suspect worms. Worming can be a bit hard on them and they need energy to grow right now. Most who worm on a regular basis do so every six months--the fall and spring are good times, as the weather is cooler. So this fall would be a good time to start. Also start with Wazine, then the stronger meds. Many (me included) prefer not to worm unless they are suspected, then have a fecal done to see what you are dealing with, and use the proper medications for that worm.
If I pasted right, this should be a good thread on worming.

I barely ever worm my birds. I think it's about time to do it, though.

You don't need to worm your babies.

The key word in the above is EXPOSED. The birds' (or any animal's) exposure to worms is not, in and of itself, indicative of their actual parasite load.

Therefore, no it -- as a blanket rule as perpetuated -- is not essential.

This.
