OK so I have been reading worm posts all day!!! I found worms in one pile of chicken poop the other day so I can only imagine that all my chickens have worms. They were small white worms. So I started reading posts about how to get rid of them. I have chosen the dewormer Valbazen 500ml because it seems to be the best according to all the post. But I need help with the dosing from some one who has done this before. Is it best to individually dose and if so do I just squirt it down the chickens throat or put it in there community drinking water. I understand it has to be repeated after 10 days. Also I understand that I cannot eat there eggs for 24 days. But can I scramble them and feed them back to the chickens. I hate to waste that many eggs. Please Please Please help me out on this one. Also I have no vets any wear close to me to help out with poultry health issues, Back yard chickens is all I got.

I also have another question to add, Could i use the Valbazen for the first 10 days then use Eprinex pour on after that so that i could eat the eggs sooner. Has any one else done something like that.

The dose is 0.5 ml for an adult large fowl chicken. Use 0.25 ml if you have bantams. Squirt it on a small scrap of bread and feed a scrap to each bird individually, is what I found easiest. If you have a lot of chickens or can't tell them apart, you may need to put the dosed ones somewhere else til you get them all -- just plan ahead. It's easiest to grab them off the roost after dark. You could squirt it down their throat but in my mind the bread is a lot easier. Do not add it to the water (it would settle, for one thing.)

Yes, 24 days total withdrawal, when you give the second dose 10 days after the first. You should not feed the eggs back to the chickens as it will increase their dose. Many people worm in the winter when they aren't laying as many, anyway.

Albendazole is used on dogs and humans as well. I am sure there are people that eat the eggs anyway -- though I would certainly caution against selling them, in case of allergy. You can also hatch them.

It would be cheaper to toss eggs after Valbazen (albendazole) than buy both drugs; they are not cheap, because you have to buy more than you need. For Valbazen, the best you will do is about $40 for 500 ml. Eprinex has been so widely used against lice or mites that it is losing its effectiveness against worms, anyway.

Thanks for our reply. Well I just found the worms so I want to treat asap. Should I be dewormig every year. I know some people who have chickens and have never dewormed. This is all new to me. Well I already ordered the Valbazen 500ml. That's what I'm going to do and i guess i will have no eggs for 24 days i am stocking up now and stopped selling so we will have plenty while we cant eat. That's truly a bummer that i cant feed them back what a huge waste of eggs.

Additionally, feeding the eggs back to the chickens with wormer residue in the eggs will help build worm resistance to the wormer. The wormer may not be as effective the next time you use it.
How often you worm depends how wet your soil is. I worm once every 3 months or less due to our wet and warm soil conditions here where I live.
