My duckling twice now has pooped out a long white worm? I'm guessing it's a worm. I'm going to take it to the vet tomorrow but any advice or words of wisdom? Thanks!

Okay, looks like it's a tapeworm, what do you suggest for treating my duckling? Back to doing research...

Ok, I'll be looking to buy some Droncit tomorrow. Looks like that will be the cure. Any suggestions on where to find it or how much to give? Duckling is 2-3 weeks old, no feathers yet.

Also, I'd like to do a general deworming as well, just to cover my bases. Is it bad to mix all the medications at once? Hopefully I wont be the only one responding to my post, ha!

you're going to a vet to get droncit.that's a good wormer for tapeworms.i believe it's also used for dogs. next time get a bottle of valbazen from jefferslivestock.com it's a wormer for sheep and goats,so it'll be off label for chickens and ducks.it kills 3 kinds of tapeworms as well as other worms including roundworm.dosage for chickens: one half cc (one half ml) for standard size chickens....same for standard size ducks. small chickens and ducks....one quarter cc (one quarter ml) for them.retreat in 21 days.

Thank you so much Dawg53! I got some Droncit (except a different brand, same active ingredient). I think I will go ahead and buy the Valbazen just to have on hand for the future. The droncit I got is in tablets for puppies so I'll have to cut the dosage and crush it up and get it down somehow.

Much appreciated!

I treated my little duck yesterday with the droncit for the tapeworms. I've been doing LOTS of research on worms and now I'm afraid my duck has gape worms, symptoms are slight but I figure it couldn't hurt to treat him just to get a fresh start. Does anyone think there will be a problem treating with Fenbendazole a day after treating with the Droncit? Should I wait for worse symptoms? Right now he has a slight congested sound when he eats and drinks, a few sneezes, and he stretches out his neck like a yawn frequently enough that I noticed. Thanks!

I too have a duckling, rescued, probably about 3-4 weeks old (a few feathers on hind end and wing tips) with so far now, white string like mucus things coming out in his poop. I am new to ducks but want the best for this little guy (or girl). Please if you have advice, I'd love to hear it!
