Hey everyone I really need some help here.......

In the past I have had some unknown deaths in my flock and the rest are just fine. This year though its been a breeze with my girls and they are so happy and freerange with all the fixings. I went out today to check on them and my RIR hen eyes were just little slits where you could barley see the eye and her comb was white on the edges and looking very very lethargic. I broke out the antibiotics, because that is what saved some of mine last year. As I was putting it into the 2nd waterer, I saw a white flat worm on the waterer!!!! I am thinking tape worm, and it was about as big as my finger. OH GOOD GOD...what am I to do?? I have wazine but is it ok to give them the antibiotic and the wormer together?

Please anyone with vet experience give me advice. My RIR was going to be shown this year!!

Carrots!!! Grate the fresh carrots and have them eat it. You may still need conventional treatment, but this works about 80% of the time. Remember to give them carrots of one whole week to get the eggs etc.

It kills the tape worms. It's an old remedy and has been used in Germany for hundreds of years. There is something in the carrot that kills them. Not sure what. My family was using this trick when I lived on a farm as a child. It's cheap, effective, plus it keeps chemicals out of the birds and eggs. Just try it, if not you can always to back to the conventional way of treating it.
BTW it also works in children with tape worms.

ok gonna do the carrots and then after they are done with the antibiotics if the carrots don't do it, then they will be dewormed.

cool, thanks!

go to firststatevetsupply.com and then email this question to the vet. He will respond quickly and is a VET. Very helpful guy. He loves chickens... I have turned to him in the past and he lives 500 miles away from me.
