I noticed today one of my new chicks had poop caked to its rear. At first I tried to pry it off but it was on good and was hurting the chick. I took the chick into the bathroom and used a warm washcloth and scrubbed at the area until I got it clean. Where the vent should be is red and inflamed looking. There also isn't the normal little slit. I am worried about my chick but don't know what to do to help.

Has anyone encountered this before?

Its probably just real red from the poo and removing it , I would put a bit of Vaseline on its little butt to comfort the diaper rash

Eggsactly! Oil it up with a Q-tip.

But I don't even see an opening for poo to come out of....could it be infected?

It will be fine. Check it every day and soak it's bottom with a warm, wet washcloth. I have even put their bottoms under running warm water (easy flowing) They call what it has "pasty butt" If you can keep it unstuck for a day or so it will go away on it's own.
You always check every chick, every day for at least a week to see if they have the condition.
They can die if you don't remove the poop.
