Is this normal? I have been given chickens and I’m worried this one has something wrong as its feet are quite a big larger than the rest. Any help would be appreciated.

Does that one have slightly raised scales on its feet/legs or look rougher than the others do? The pictures aren't sharp enough for me to tell, but it could possibly have SLM (scaly leg mites). Normally, the others it lives/lived with would have them too though.

In case that's it: The treatment I've done is to go in at night while they're roosting and slather their toes, feet, and legs with Vaseline. Do it again in three nights, then again in three more nights, for a total of three times.

If you have or get Ivermectin Pour-On, you can do the same thing by going in at night and putting three drops of it on the back of their necks (spread the feathers out so it hits the skin). Repeat that in 7 to 10 days.

I’m going to try and get another picture tonight while they aren’t moving around so much, but I think you are correct about it being SLM. Thank you for your quick response!

Those are good treatments, and easy enough to do. They'll kill the mites, but it won't make the scales look better. That won't happen until the chicken sheds those scales and new ones grow.

You might not see any visible change for awhile. Scales regenerate slowly. I just wanted to mention this so that you didn't think you did it wrong, or that the treatment didn't work.

Thank you. Good to know because I definitely would have been worried after a week of two without change! Very new to this and will take any advice. Thank you

You're welcome. We were all new at one point! Ask any questions you want to; nobody was born knowing this stuff. The knowledge pool here is wide and deep.
