Hello- I have two Plymouth Rocks and two Rhode Island Reds who will be exactly one week old tomorrow. Both Rhodies and One of the Plymouth Rocks are coming along nicely, they have gorgeous wings coming in, their baby "tooth" has fallen off, and they even have some comb on their heads!
It's my other Plymouth that concerns me.
I have seen another topic about someone who was worried their slow developer may be a roo (All of mine are SUPPOSED to be girls, I ordered them from a hatchery), but I think this might be a little different.
My Plymouth Rock has the same amount of comb as her 'sisters', her legs seem to be the same thickness- but she is covered in a lot more down then the others and she STILL has her little baby "tooth". She also has wings that are twice as short then the others. I will try to post pictures in a moment.
I am really hoping that she is not a roo- but then I'm concerned as to why she would be developing so differently. Also- maybe she has something wrong with her wings? And what is with that tooth still hanging on there?

I look forward to any advice on this...
Thanks!
Sarah(New Chickie Momma)

I'll have to post a photo of the difference between wings and the tooth tomorrow. Still though- any info on this would be great.

Just came across this post and thought I would ask. What is a "baby tooth"? Hope I am not intruding in your post, and sorry I don't have an answer. I do have a BR at the moment who is 3 weeks old, but the only one seeming to lag in feather development is my Easter Egger chick Sula, who I think may be a Sam.

I don't know the right name for it- but it's that tooth-like thing on the tip of their beaks that they use to break out of their shells as hatchlings.
I'm a little worried that this chick may just be a boy... if it is I'll have to get rid of it, because I live in the city where males are not allowed.

If your question is about Rooster Versus Hen..... if they are Barred Plymouth Rocks then post a picture and we can tell if it is a female. If you search on BYC you get a lot of info on this subject. Speckledhen is the best at giving this info. Post a picture. Here is a thread to show you.

Thank you for replying. My question touches on what gender it is... but manly I'm more worried that it IS a girl, and therefore developing at a different rate. I'll have to find my camera tonight and post a photo...
