Sounds like a fun project. But, i think humidity is very important. If you can't scare up an old hygometer then i suggest buying one. Walmart has thermometer/hygrometers for pretty cheap, around $6. You can buy them online. Or Petco or Petsmart will have them in the reptile section. i've used both. The Fluker's brand from Petco seemed to be the most accurate on temps and humidity.
If you're going to continue doing hatching, i suggest getting an egg turner. i started with just a still air incubator, hand turning the eggs 3-5 times a day. When i moved up to a forced air with an egg turner, i thought i had died and gone to heaven.
It's very nerve-wracking the first hatch (and second, and third, etc.).
i'm not sure i will ever feel lackadaisical about it. In fact, i have a couple eggs under a broody right now due to hatch on Wednesday. Fretting that all goes well.
