Would Turkey try to mate with chicken?

Hi all, I've had chickens for 3 years and have been thinking about getting a small sized turkey as a pet. I've heard such wonderful things about them. My concern is what if it ends up being a male? Would it try to mate with my hens? I can see that could cause some major injuries or even death if/when he tried to jump on them.

It doesn't always happen but yes there is always that real possibility a Tom would attempt to mate a chicken hen cause major damage or death. I personally house and pen mine separate. They do free range on occasion together because the turkeys do like to hang with the chickens.

I had a tom that would always try to mate with a Jap. bantam I had. I was scared for her life! Now I just give him an old soccer ball and when he feels randy he plays soccer.
