Thank you. How long do you soak your girl's feet? And do you have to poke a hole in the skin for the pus to escape? My girl doesn't seem to have a core spot. I'll take a better look under her foot, tomorrow. To me, it’s a form of bumble. I’ve had this be a continuing issue with my EE, Maudy. In her situation, the lumps always do get bigger. I have to soak her feet on a regular basis, then I apply pressure to the lump (from the top) in the webbing. The dirt, infection, etc, normally pops out underneath fairly easily. I rinse it out, pack it with triple antibiotic, and wrap, clean, and rewrap until it heals. This likely won’t be a continuous issue for you, but it sadly is with my girl. Her webbing is deeply pocketed and easily traps everything, causing infections.
I’ll soak her feet for about 15-20 minutes, just to clean them up and soften the bumble. She’s one of those easygoing older hens that doesn’t seem to mind it. Feels good on the feet, I imagine. With Maudys issue, I usually don’t have to make an incision, because the gunk comes out so easy when I press down on it. I’ve never had another chicken with deep-pocketed webbing like hers. In my experience, that bubble always gets more swollen. You’ll get a better idea of where the scab might be when you look at her tomorrow. I hope your girls foot will be feeling better soon!Thank you. How long do you soak your girl's feet? And do you have to poke a hole in the skin for the pus to escape? Sometimes mine just have a cork like that and no bumble, I do the same thing and they heal up good. I change the wrap every 3 or 4 days till healedSo, I got a better look at the bottom of the foot, and there was definitely something there! Gave her a short soak and out popped what looked like a hard piece of impacted mud. The empty hollow spot didn't look bad or irritated. I wasn't sure if I got a bumble out, or if was just mud from digging. Just to be safe, I medicated and wrapped it, and will look again, tomorrow.
Thank you! I will probably change her wrap, tomorrow - just because they've been free-ranging a bit and digging a lot. Fortunately, she's pretty easy to handle because she needs lots of "bottom" baths.Sometimes mine just have a cork like that and no bumble, I do the same thing and they heal up good.
