Well, as some know....about 6 weeks ago, we got our new Buff Orpingtons. They are all doing great, and we even added 5 EE to the group. We have 13 grown RIR/MIX. After reading on here, that RIR seem to not want to go broody....I attempted a home made bator....that failed...so I bought one, and set 27 eggs...so far....day 14 only lost one.
Today we recieved our new Polish Roo in the mail, he is one year old..named Ben. So very sweet!! Im in love!
While I was out there talking to him, telling him just how beautifull he is...he picked up a piece of straw...and extended it to me..like a gift. IM HOOKED!!!! We chatted for another 30 minutes or so, over some scratch. Well......I was looking for all of my other hens...just back from thier " walk about" when I noticed...Pancake was missing! My only little white hen! I was running all over looking for her...fearing her demise from Tony...the hawk that comes by to "visit" from time to time. Last search..was the coop....when to my surprise....there was Pancake..all puffy...in a trance like state...on a nest. OH NO SHE DIDNT go broody on me!! My current flock is up to 40 and NOW she wants to set.
Oh well.....I guess she will get ONE chance...actually...im a little excited...I was wanting ONE hen to set...about 15 days ago!!!! Now with 27 in the bator...and the 5 week old babies...I am thinking I will HAVE to either win the lottery.....or sell some of the girls and roos...( like THAT will happen! LOL) Come on lucky lottery!!! HURRY!!!
