Wound with maggots

Hi everyone,

I discovered what seems like a fresh wound on my chicken this evening. She didn’t come to the coop at night so I’m wondering if she was attacked during the night. Anyways, I still see fresh blood so I’m thinking I caught this early. She does smell and there are some tiny maggots. I have sprayed with salt water and removed as many maggots as I could see. Then sprayed with vetrycin and Inhave her inside since it’s the most hit and humid day today.

I want to soak her in the morning. How long should I soak her in epsom salt bath to drown the maggots?

Should I apply neosporin after the vetrycin?

Most people soak in Epsom salts while the water stays warm, 15-20 minutes. Maggots can continue to hatch out for 24 hours or more during flystrike. Some think that petroleum based ointments can make the wound gunky, but it might help to kill the maggots. Here is a good article about flystrike:
