I am looking to write a small news article for 4-H. I would like to send it into our local Lima News so it could possibly be published (if it is chosen to be published by the news) around the fair time (which is in about three weeks). I wanted to write an article on the values that should be taught in 4-H, but have been discouraged by many to write about something else (it is a common problem in our 4-H area for people to have sponsors for the projects and never even have to see their animal right up before the fair or to ship animals from top breeders to make sure their child will win or various other things)(matter of fact, every champion and reserve champion animal must be drug tested by taking hair samples and urine samples and I was informed recently that it is very uncommon for other fairs to do that).
So, now I would like to write an article about going to the fair and comparing the different animals from the meat animals to the breeding/heritage animals and for people to see what they eat and think about it. Maybe give a few pointers to look into The Livestock Conservancy and research about heritage breeds and to suggest people to raise their own.
What do people think about this? Does anyone have any pointers or ideas to bounce off of me? I'm not really sure about how to go about this and would like to see if people have done this before.
