Wrong DE used... are my girls going to die now?

Lovemychix - I would love to see a picture of your BR Frizzle!!! I can't imagine what that chicken looks like! I also have a 6yr old girl and 2yr old boy! LOL

Are they making it? Any weird signs of illness?
I am so thankful it sounds like they are making it. It's been a week now, right?
best wishes

emandmikey- Did the package contain a "Codex" number?

I'm hoping all will be well, that you have 'fossil flour'. Or than any contaminants are incidentally not dangerous to your birds. DE is slow acting, about 12 hours. You have time to respond. How is everything now?

It's been almost 4 days, and they're all acting completely normal and healthy!

There was no codex number.

I got two eggs again today! Woo hoo - my 3rd day getting 2/day!

Thanks everyone! Em

Glad everything went well. I, too, would have been panicky. I have also made some rather silly mistakes that I won't be sharing with others,

and I am glad yours are going to be fine. One thing about this forum, you can always get some help and most of the time some sympathetic understanding.

I too have used a non-food grade DE only in their sand box & on the straw in the hay. It was called Safe T ...something or other, can't remember the name. Before I used it, I emailed the company that makes it & the guy told me it was ok for them to bathe in it & they do eat the sand as grit too, it is a natural product. No ill effects for mine either.

Good luck!

Thanks! I've ordered some online and hopefully it will be here within the next couple of days. Yesterday I got 4 eggs!!! Weird! They're all doing great - I've got one with lice, and that's the original reason I wanted to get the DE... Her lice seem to be much less than the first day when I dusted her with the 'bad stuff' - but I will re-dust her with the good stuff, and allow the others to have a new dust bathing spot with good stuff. I'm so glad they don't seem to be messed up! That would have been devastating for me. We've had these girls since they were a few weeks old, and have waited sooooo long for them to start laying! Whew!
