When do you assist? I’ve read through all of these, but I’m so nervous to hurt or kill the one that is currently in progress with no issues.

So, does the one pipping at the wrong end need help? Or wait? It pipped about 4.5 hrs ago. I haven’t seen it move at all. It’s a very large egg. I know timing is everything.

See the photos and let me know what you think.

PS (We forgot to mark the last air pocket before lock down. Rookie mistake, but the kiddos are helping...so we got carried away.)

So, I decided to dampen a sponge with warm 100 degree water. We made sure no other eggs were pipped.
I opened the lid placed the damp, warm sponge over the guy that’s about to unzip. Peeled the egg shell off (it fell right off) the one pipped at the wrong end. I didn’t see a hole in the white membrane. So I carefully punctured and gave a gentle tug. It ripped a little. I saw the chick move. So I left everything alone, removed the sponge and am watching to make sure the membranes don’t dry up on me.

The one that’s pipped in wrong end is now moving! (Wasn’t before.)

First (bluish photo) is the one that is doing good and I was worried about hurting. The one with all the eggs is the one pipped at the wrong end.

Just wanted to add, when they pip on the wrong end they don't have the luxury of the room the air cell would give them. Their heads often get pressed against the shell and they can't get air very easily. Make sure you can see it's beak and that it has access to the hole it made.
