I have a week old chick that isn`t doing so well. It started with splay legs, but now also has wry neck. I am syringe feeding it. I am adding extra chick vitamins, that contain vitamin E. I am also mixing probiotic yoghurt in with its chick crumb. Anything else anyone can think of doing? It seems happy enough, and now cheeps like mad when it hear my voice. As is the way when we put a lot of work into one of them, I am very attached.

This chick is a silkie. I have noticed they seem to get these two problems more than most breeds.

Make sure that your vitamins have selenium--if not get some to add to your mixture. Have you used the hobble technique of a bandaid around the legs for the splay legs. Most info about wry neck recommends they be islolated from being stressed by other chicks.

Thank you for your quick reply. I will get some selenium today, but I have looked up what our local supermarket has, and it contains A C and E too. Should I just give that to the chick? If I should, how much?

I am already using band aids, all 3 of the silkies have the same splay leg problem going on. The ill one doesn`t stand, just lies on its side, I am wondering if I am doing the wrong thing keeping it alive, but will continue for another week I think.
