Hi, I have a couple of young chickens with pox isolated from the flock inside the house, to keep them warm, and one of them just pooped this and I'm freaking out bc I've been super cuddly with them bc they look so sad 😫. What are they? I've only seen this kind of worms on dogs but bigger, on a stray dog we brought home, and we treated it with fenbendazole, is it appropriate for chickens? I also have ivermectin, I'm not sure if it works on worms. Should I treat all of my chickens?? Help!!

Ivermectin doesn’t work on tapeworms and birds are extremely sensitive to it. Praziquantel can be used but off label in a food animal needs a prescription. Fenbendazole at 50 mg/kg daily for 5 days might be effective as well but it is a high end dose and I’d recommend vet oversight.

Purchase either Equimax horse paste or Zimecterin Gold horse paste at a feed store. Both products contain Praziquantel and both will eliminate tapeworms pronto.
Dosage for Equimax horse paste is 0.16ml given orally to a 5lb chicken.
Zimecterin Gold horse paste dosage is 0.3ml given orally to a 5lb chicken.

I've dealt with tapeworms. It's best to deworm tapeworm infected birds early in the morning prior to feeding them. The worms will be at their weakest and the wormer will be more effective eliminating the tapeworms. After dosing, wait at least 3 hours before feeding your birds. This will give time for the wormer to kill the tapeworms. You may even see the tapeworm and or sections of tapeworm excreted in feces.
Insects are the host for tapeworms.

Thank you! I'll get that as soon as I can, but do you know if albendazole works too?? It's all I have right now at home and I wanna treat this couple of babies as soon as possible because they're already weak with fowl pox

Since they're already weak, I would wait to get what you know will work (see @dawg53's post above) rather than treating them with something that may work, only to have to give them something else later.

You say your birds are chicks. You need to calculate the dose based on body weight. For that reason you should administer a paste orally, especially since you say these birds are weak. I can't give you the dosages. Please stand by, I will tag an Educator to help you.
