Wyandotte/BRs??? Roos? Pullets? Pics HELP **UPDATE**

Well, if you go by feather development (if they're all the same age) I would say that 1 and 2 are pullets and 3 is a roo. I think it's still too early to tell judging by comb size. I hope it works out the way you want it to!

Hey Wyandotte's are supposed to have rose combs, and 2 of your chicks have straight combs. Occasionally you will get a wyandotte that has a straight comb but the standard calls for rose comb. I know someone will correct me if I am wrong here.

The top 2 chicks do look like Gold Laced Wyandottes but I am sorry to tell you your 3rd chick does not look like a wyandotte to me it looks like a Barred Rock and a pullet also. As for chicks 1 and 2 they are really still just a little to young to be for sure as to their sex.

You can go to feathersite and look up wyandottes and see pictures of Silver Laced Wyandottes chicks.

Oh darn. I really hope we have a roo. That is the whole reason we got chicks. The lady said the BR or wyandotte [whatever it is] was a rooster because his wings weren't developing as fast as the other ones. Our roo just died and we wanted another one so we got these chicks and now they might all be pullets. I love them, but I was really hoping one would be a roo.. Anyone else have some input??

Call Ruby, Robby and try the upside down trick (this is NOT mean even if it sounds like it). Gently turn the chick upside down on you hand until it relaxes, then when the chick does that it will either let one leg, or both, droop. One leg is pullet both legs are cockerels. Im not sure how accurate this is but it is supposed to work really accuratly. Also I beleive it is yet to be proven, but if both legs are still tucked to its tummy when the chick relaxes I beleive that counts as male as well, and im not sure how accurate this is as well but it is supposed to work better on chicks a week or younger

I tried that theory twice on each of them, and both times they were all different.. So, I hope we get one roo. This weekend we're going to get two Cuckoo Marans pullets (as babies)

I agree with you 100%. Wyandottes have a rose comb. Single combs do come up occasionally but only rose combs are in the standard.

To me the 3rd chick looks to be a Barred Rock as well.

So is the BR a pullet? And what about the other two? Is number two just a genetic disorder --the comb--? We don't really care, but we were wondering. Do I have any chance of having a roo?

The BR does look like a pullet to me going by the dark coloring on the wings and the dark coloring on the front of its legs, as for the straight comb on the 2nd GLW being genetic hmm not exactly sure how to answer that I just know that occasionally you will have a chick hatch out with a straight comb. I have 2 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chicks right now that have straight combs. This is just a guess on the 1st and 2nd chick but if either was a rooster I would think would be the 2nd one. And like I said thats just a guess at this age.
