Hello everyone,
I have a question about SLW. I went to a farm today to purchase 2 hens to replace one that sadly passed from my small flock a few months ago. The ad said they had Easter Eggers and that's what my other girls are. So I dragged my 3 boys and fiance out to the farm and told the boys they could pick the next 2 chickens. They were so excited. Well, when we got there, they didn't have EEs. They had rock barred, some white chickens with a name I had never heard, a welsummer cross, buffs a RIR and one silver laced Wyandotte. With very excited boys and a fiance that had agreed to make this trip and allow for 2 more chickens, I didn't feel I could waste the trip so I let the boys choose. We left with the SLW and the RIR. Both are 11 months old but the RIR is huge compared to the SLW, she's actually as big as my largest EE and they are 5 this year. I'm reading that SLW are a larger chicken too but this one seems small?? Could it actually be a cross or are they actually a smaller bird. It's hard to tell in the pic, but it's much smaller than the RIR. Also, does anyone have a quiet one because I'm reading they are very noisy and my girls are pretty quiet except for their 5 minute egg song right after laying.
Normally I read up BEFORE I buy something so I feel very out of place with 2 breeds I didnt research ahead of time :(
And someone please stop me from going back to buy the welsummer cross, because that was beautiful but I probably don't need 6 chickens, right?... Right?
