I have a hodge-podge of breeds, so it's making it difficult to guess genders (without same-breed chicks to compare with one another). However, my one silver laced wyandotte seems to have shorter, sparcer tail feathers than my other chicks... is this a breed thing or should I expect a roo?

Ok... Sadly, this picture doesn't have any tail feathers in it... I'll be taking her "3 week old" pictures tonight though, so I'll post a better one then.

Here are two pics I took tonight... I had a hard time getting a good picture of the comb, but I can tell you that there isn't much there yet...

Ha ha!! That's hilarious! I wanted to take weekly pics of my chicks with something else in the shot to help show the size/growth... and since I'm almost as addicted to diet coke as I am to chickens, I always have one handy!

Loved that Diet Coke joke! Anyhow, if this chick is taking longer to feather out than the others, chances are, it's a male. I have three GLW chicks, and two feathered out very quickly, while one took a super long time to feather out, and his little tail feathers were way shorter than the others......I did order two girls and one boy.....and that was the difference. His comb is also thicker. Now, he's finally feathered out, and he's getting very colorful.

Hope you wanted a cockerel! I'm guessing boy!
