Wyandotte thread!

I just got three wyandottes about a month ago, all from McMurray. So far they are all friendly, pretty, and only one has any health problems (a crooked beak). I have a Columbian, a Blue-laced Red, and a Silver-laced.

They are said to be good egg layers, good meat, good pets, okay broodies, pretty good foragers, and hardy in all sorts of weather.

Blue, my Columbian

Chiefess, my Silver-laced

Scarlet, my Blue-laced Red

This is obviously a matter of personal opinion and I'm sure you will get plenty of different opinions from BYC members, but I personally like Wyandottes. They are very cold hardy; their rose combs are virtually impervious to frost bite. They are beautiful, and they are generally quite docile, although I have on occasion had an aggressive one that I had to remove from the flock. They are good layers of large, brown eggs, and while Wyandottes are not among my very few favorite breeds, they are a good addition to any flock.

This is my gorgeous Partridge Laced Wyandotte called Tia. She has just hatched the chick in the piccie, Dad is a RIR so I'm interested to see how it turns out! I'm brand new to BYC and I love that I can show off my chucks...my friends just don't get my chicken obsession so Thanks all!

Same here! My family is nice and all about it, but they sort of just stare at me when I say I want 25 more chicks.

Aah, thanks. I love her dearly, she's a super mum and so gentle with our family. I have a mixed flock of 21 hens, 1 cockerel and 6 ducks and if I had it my way, I'd have at least double that...my other half despairs of me! He secretly loves them though, he does the early opening in the morning and is the first to ask how they are after work!
