Wyandottes are a breed that tends to need a bit more elbow than some others, and they do tend to be more dominant birds. So if you do choose to get a few different breeds, try to avoid the more docile breeds like Faverolle and Orpingtons. And make sure that there is more than enough space, both in the coop and the run.
 
Hey, whatever you want. Unless you're starting a breeding project, go hog-wild. I prefer variety because of more interesting egg colors and seeing all those different colors trotting around the yard.

That said, I do free-range, so I can put more dominant chickens with less dominant chickens and see them get along fine. If you're keeping them in more crowded quarters, try and select for similar size and temperament.

This girl was originally sold to us as a cuckoo Marans, but it was almost immediately apparent that wasn't the case due to her calm. Some have suggested she might be a Wyandotte/Cuckoo Marans cross
