Wyondottes sitting on blue eggs

new chicken momma here: My hens have been laying for a few weeks. I have one Wyondotte that is usually in the coop when I go in sitting on a blue egg. My Easter Eggers are both laying. All I have read Wyondottes lay brown eggs. Could she just be wishful thinking and sit on the other hens egg?

That's not her egg, no- but sounds like she may be broody if she is staying in there regularly. Do you have a Rooster? If you do, you could leave the eggs for her to hatch. Otherwise after about 3 weeks she will likely go back to normal.

No rooster. I have 6 hens and only 4 have started laying. But she is in the laying box everyday when I go to collect eggs. Always in the same laying box.

Yeah pretty sure she's broody then. Well, she'll get over it. If you know someone who has fertilized eggs nearby you could get some if you want her to hatch some, but you need to do it pretty quickly. More than likely she'll just get over it. I would pull the eggs out from under her regularly if you want her to stop. You can also pull her out and put her on a screen bottom cage or something to literally "cool her off". Once she cools down, her hormones will go back to normal and she'll be out in the yard pecking at things again.

I didn’t realize they could get broody this young. She had not started laying yet.

Is she on nest most the day and all night?
When you pull her out of nest and put her on the ground, does she flatten right back out into a fluffy screeching pancake?
Does she walk around making a low cluckcluckcluckcluckcluck(ticking bomb) sound on her way back to the nest?
If so, then she is probably broody and you'll have to decide how to manage it.


BUT....how old is she?
Can you post a pic of her?
I doubt she's broody, but she may be getting close to onset of lay so spending time in the nest.

She is only on the nest after the EE has layed. She stays only a little while then runs off with the other hens. She is 16 weeks old.

She's not broody and is not quite old enough to lay...
....just 'practicing' maybe, copying the bigger girls.

I agree with aart. You didn't say she was only 16 weeks old in the initial post. She's just trying to figure things out at this point.
