y tex co.ral dust??

I went to the feed store today and asked for poultry dust for mites/lice..they wen over and picked up all they had...it was Y tex Co ral Livestock dust,i figured it would work so i bought it.

when i got home i red all the little words on the back..and it said use only on specifed animals,and it only said Beef, and dairy cattle,and swine... arggg!!!!

Well will it work on poultry?? any one please help,my hens are loosing feathers around neck and im worried its mites..

What is the active ingredient? Somewhere a drug or insecticide should be listed and the % it is present.

Also are your hens just molting? Look around the vent for lice and mites, and under the wings in that natural bald spot. If they are loosing feathers starting at the neck they might just be molting.

Will i be able to see the bugs clearly??

Im not sure if its molting or not...but my birds are only 8 or so months old.

If so no, that is not for use on chickens, it's an organophospate so it can't be anywhere near any food at all, like eggs or even your nesting material much less the hen it'self.

Take it back and educate the staff at the feed store, obviously they don't know.

Its a really small feed store,and they were packed..so she just kinda pushed me out the door with it like ya ya get what you want and leave....

Adoptedbyachicken is spot on..... dont use that stuff on your chickens!

Depending on your eyesight, you should be able to see lice (although they run for cover) but may have more trouble seeing mites. If it looks like specks of dirt and then it moves...... its a mite.

Ectiban is made for livestock, including poultry, but off hand I dont know whether it is for use on laying hens. (Im not home or I'd check the label)
