Yard spraying for insects

My husband, without really thinking sprayed our yard with spectracide. He didn't think about the fact that we wanted to introduce them to the yard to free range since they are now big enough. He stayed away from the coop and run while spraying but I wonder now how long I have to wait before the chickens can free range again. All the FAQ's on the spectracide site just said not recommended for use with grazing animals. That's not much help. Anyone with experience with this?

The residual effect lasts for up to 8 weeks (under ideal conditions), so don't expect your birds to have anything to eat for a bit.

As far as the birds themselves, I wouldn't be too keen on eating eggs in the interim from them after potentially dining on insecticide-laced critters.

There isn't much of a need to spray the lawn for bugs if you have chickens doing their thing.

Foops!

I would contact the company, maybe call them, and ask them what the concerns are for the specific product (you don't mention which Spectracide product you used) that was sprayed. Find out what the active ingredient in the product used is and research that.

The fact that they say 'not recommended for grazing animals' pretty much answers your question, don't eat anything that eats the product....or it could be fatally toxic.

Good Luck.

It was spectracide triazicide. He didn't spray the run, which is currently all grass so I'm assuming that would be the only thing they could eat other than their feed. They aren't laying yet. Two are only 16 weeks. One is supposed to be laying but I just got her this week and she hasn't laid any eggs for me yet. I wish he had told me before spraying...but he was tired of the two inch cockroaches. (we have a huge unkempt field behind us and they apparently love chicken feed).
