Hey everyone, I like to plant a decent sized herb garden that my ducks have free range over as well as myself. I usually plant run of the mill herbs but I put ecenacia in it this year and I was thinking of adding yarrow. Is yarrow duck safe?

Just this morning I put my 4 day old Ducklings in the garden with yarrow in it and they nibbled it but I don't think they liked it lol
Lol well that's good to know. I do like the medicinal benefits of yarrow for wound care and I wasn't sure if it was good for their bellies like it is for people

Yarrow is safe for ducks. Its an anti-inflammatory herb. Last year I had a duck that stopped walking for no apparent reason. I grew yarrow and chopped the leaves and flowers and added them to his drinking water every day. he loved the yarrow and gobbled it down as soon as it was added to his water tub. It soon became obvious that the yarrow made no difference to his condition [which turned out to be a pelvic tumor]. But he so loved the yarrow, I continued to give it to him. I now have two large pots flowering in his memory!

Good choice on the echinacea. Yes, yarrow is safe for poultry of all sorts (and cows, echidnas, platypuses and giraffes). One of my drakes was bleeding internally (with blood coming out of his nares) once and I harvested him some wild yarrow leaves, put it in his food and after 15 minutes the blood stopped coming from his nares and after 30 minutes he was acting like he owned the joint, lol. Very safe for all critters.

P.S He is still acting like he owns the place lol
