YAY!!!! First egg;)

I have 18 week old pullets......one of my gold star hens layer her first egg. She started squatting 3 days ago, comb was redder than the rest of the girls, and my husband and I had checked their pelvic bones the other day and hers were a good egg width apart! Egg was smaller, but beautiful. Unfortunately I think the hens got to it or pecked at it before I got out there. I was cleaning my house and heard this really weird crowing noise....I thought geez do I have a rooster? I now think my hen Mia was announcing her egg.......so today my kids and I are doing watchful shifts for her next egg. I don't want egg eaters

Congrats on the egg! I got my first egg on Sunday evening, so far no more eggs but we're watching

I hope we get more. She has been sitting in the nesting box again on and off all morning.........our fingers are crossed!
