Okay must get some feed back here ........
hatching out a dozen BCM for my friend chunky_ficken,
this morning I awoke to a cute fuzzy little YELLOW feather legged chick from one of the darkest Marans eggs in the bator.
Eggs were all from a breeder of Wade Jeanne C-1 lines of Black Coppers.
What gives and why?
I cannot find the exact answer to my inquiries on line so any help would be appreciated.

It is a Wheaten. Wheaten is recessive to Birchen, which is the allele that Black Coppers (correctly called Brown-reds) are based on. This chick indicated both parents are not pure bred Black Coppers as both carry the recessive Wheaten gene. Cross bred Black Copper X Wheaten are very common in the USA.
