Ok - putting this one on a new thread by itself to keep things from being too confusing.

Short story: Ordered and rec'd birds in February - got some very healthy and vibrant chicks, two of which were supposed to be Ameraucanas. The ones marked as Ameraucanas turned out to be a speckled sussex and some other funny bird (may never be identified at this point - different thread).

I ordered a Speckled Sussex roo and this bird is what was delivered and marked as such. Is he/she a sussex? All of the SS birds I've seen have been more of a coppery color with white speckled in. This bird is more gray and black than brown but is also twice the size of all of the other hens and roos that are the same age.

Is he/she a SS that just has more mottled coloring than the others?

All thoughts appreciated!

This looks a little like a Hybrid cross between a Silver Laced Wyandotte and Golden Laced Wyandotte........it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! Of course it could be a partridge cochin mix.....either way, it a winner Easter egger!!!! Very long tail too! You are Lucky! He is wonderful!

The funny part is that at first glance, it looks as if a juvenile hawk is running around in the pen with my chickens. We have hawks here in TX that go seasonal molts that often carry much of the same coloring. A hawk in the hen house!

I got these chicks from Ideal Poultry. I don't believe that they sell or breed cross breeds for the general public - at least there isn't any place on their website where you can order mixed breed poultry so I find it interesting that you guys think he might be a cross breed of some sort. I just assumed they messed up my order and sent me a purebred of something else but then we are back to the original issue which is - there really isn't anything purebred that looks like this, at least from what I've seen in my limited experience with chickens.

Maybe he needs to go thru a molt? He is a big boy for sure! He has olive green legs. Very interesting and eye-catching bird, I agree. If he is an EE, I wish he was a girl. That was the whole purpose of my ordering Ameraucanas pullets (which I obviously didn't get) to begin with. LOL!

Well I'm glad that he is identified. I was expecting brown Ameraucanas not the EE's. But I think it will still work out. I have a very broody EE that needs a mate. She is the only green egg layer I have left (I HATE coyotes) and I think maybe with the proper introductions there could be romance in their future...haha!

Thanks for all of your input! I appreciate it!
