Ok, so we have choosen our roos. We are keeping:
ChickenDuck (because he's ChickenDuck!)
Big Red (previously named Taffy until we realized he was a boy lol)
and Pretty Boy (the neat looking black splash because he's so cool looking!)
Ok, so here's our plan. ChickenDuck and Big Red are quite docile. They never squabble, but are very watchful and protective. We intend to let them run with the girls if all goes well. ChickenDuck is the one the hens listen to, and the one the hens run to when the other boys are bothering them!
Now, Pretty Boy we want for breeding purposes. He is ALL ROO. Very posture-y, nice to us but a bully to the other boys, and the first one to really try his hand (wing? lol) at crowing. We also have a "not as friendly as the other girls" hen that is also a black splash. They are the only two in the flock.
Can they be kept seperate in a pen of their own so we can breed them without playing the "whos your daddy" game, to hopefully get more of the beautiful black splashes? If we can, do we keep them in the pen all the time, or not? Since Pretty Boy is more aggressive, can we keep him penned alone so he doesnt hurt the hens, or would he be lonely?
